This January school holidays, Velora Studios presents a full-day soft sculpture workshop at Mairangi Arts Centre, led by Velora’s founder and artist, Xinwen. The workshop is designed for young makers who are interested in hands-on creation and in exploring how simple materials can be transformed into expressive sculptural forms.
Working exclusively with pipe cleaners, students will create three themed pieces over the course of the day: a flower bouquet inspired by a morning nature walk, a small sculpted puppy, and a mini potted plant. The workshop focuses on material exploration—twisting, layering, balancing, and shaping—rather than copying fixed outcomes. Each activity is structured to encourage individual interpretation while introducing core techniques for building stable and visually coherent soft sculptures.
All materials are fully prepared and provided by Velora Studios. No prior experience is required. Guidance is adjusted to suit different skill levels, allowing participants to work at their own pace while developing confidence in making three-dimensional forms by hand.
